Hello, my dears!
Did you know that July 1st is the anniversary of the invention of sunglasses?
With that in mind, I want to remind you how important it is to protect your permanent makeup from the sun.
⠀
Why is this so important?
1. During the healing period, heat from the sun can cause sweating, which softens scabs and may result in incomplete pigment retention.
⠀
2. Sweat can also increase the risk of secondary infection. This can lead to inflammation, the need for treatment, and even rejection of the implanted pigment.
⠀
3. Within the first month after your procedure, sun exposure on healing skin can cause unwanted pigmentation. For example, lips tinted with a delicate pink shade may turn dark brown. I have seen this happen in my practice after sun exposure, and correcting this “not-so-fresh” lip color took several sessions.
⠀
4. Even after your permanent makeup has fully healed, it can fade in the sun just like hair or clothing, shortening its lifespan.
⠀
To avoid these issues and keep your permanent makeup looking its best, follow these simple tips:
⠀
• Wear dark sunglasses, hats, and use sun protection products.
⠀
• Protect your lips with an SPF lip balm.
⠀
And to answer a common question: Can you get permanent makeup in the summer? Absolutely! It’s not about the season. For example, it’s best to avoid the procedure before a tropical vacation in winter, but in our often-cloudy Saint Petersburg, summer is perfectly fine.
⠀
Wishing you all a safe and beautiful summer!
